Our furniture sets are incomplete without tables. No matter what furniture set you choose, whether it’s a dining table, a sofa set, or a bed set―everything comes with tables.
It has been a long and arduous battle for the glass tabletops to overthrow the wooden tabletop monarchy. The clear glass tops are elegant. And a contemporary interior would not be complete without them. Everywhere, from the office to the home, glass tabletops are a popular choice.
You may have noticed that different glass tabletops have different measurements. In this article, we’ll discuss the different types and shapes of table tops and how to measure them.
Table Measurement For Glass Tops
You can easily calculate the size of your various types of tables and table tops with these easy-to-follow steps, so you can easily place your order.
Required Things
- Pencil/Marker
- Tape measure
- Notepad
Consider Your Table’s Shape
Here’s how it works: First, you must take into account the shape of your table. If it has a square or rectangular shape, then you can easily take the measurements. In the case of irregular shapes, pay attention to the diameter or if it is circular.
Read on for these measuring tips for each different style of the table once you are familiar with the style and shape. These tips will also help you recognize the size of a glass top!
-
How To Measure Round Glass Table Top?
Round tables and glass table tops aren’t difficult to measure! Your measuring tap’s tip should be positioned vertically in the center of your table surface. It should be a center, so if you stretch it across either side, you’ll get the table’s radius and size. Circular tables are considered to have an all-inclusive size based on the radius.
Note: When buying a tabletop, double the measurements if they are taken from the center to the edge (radius).
-
How to Measure Square Glass Table Top?
This is literally something anyone can do! In order to measure a square table, you only need to place the tip of the measuring tape on one of the sides and stretch it straight out! As square tables have the same length and width, note down the measurement as the table’s length. Next, place the tip perpendicular to the table, and take its length as the width. You’ll notice they are both the same.
-
How to Measure Rectangular Glass Tabletops?
It is necessary to measure both sides of a rectangular tabletop! By simply placing the measuring tape on one edge of the smaller side and extending it straight to the border, you can measure its width (relatively the smaller side). Find out the length by repeating the process. Repeat this process at least twice and note down the measurements each time!
-
How to Measure a RaceTrack or an Oval Glass Table Top?
With a measuring tape, locate the center of the table for an oval glass tabletop or for a racetrack. As you stretch the tape measure from one end to another, keep an eye on the center; if it’s the larger side, it will be the length. Otherwise, it will be the width. Be sure to measure through the center of the table when evaluating these measurements. Once you’ve measured one side, repeat the process on the other side, keeping the center point in mind.
In addition to following the above tips, you must also determine the radius of a racetrack. You will have to recognize and mark the line where the table curves. Measure the radius of the round edge right from the center of the line. With this method, you’ll have a perfectly shaped racetrack table top without even bringing in an expert.

Custom glass top pattern with a unique shape
If you want to order a unique pattern shape, here is how you can draw the pattern:
Materials:
- Kraft paper
- Painter’s tape
- Scissors
- A thick pencil, such as a carpenter’s
- Find Kraft paper in the office supplies section of a store. Use plain, sturdy paper. If you can’t find any, visit our showroom, where we’ll provide you with some. Tissue, wrapping, and newspapers aren’t suitable for this process. Patterns cannot be made from them because they do not seem durable enough.
- To pattern a radius corner on furniture or to cover the whole surface, cut the paper to fit and extend it over by a minimum of two inches all the way around.
- Approximately 12″-18″ apart, make small slits in the paper about 2″ wide.
- Make sure all sides of the paper overhang the surface when you place the paper.
- Tape the painter’s tape over each hole and over the paper to secure it to the surface. Put heavy objects, for example, books, on the paper if you don’t want to or cannot tape the furniture to secure it. While tracing the pattern, the paper must adhere to the surface to prevent it from moving around.
- By holding the paper gently near the edge and angling your pencil, trace along its edge. You must make a sharp and crisp line so we can follow it.
- Make sure the pattern has your name written on it.
- The pattern should not be folded or cut. Take it to the showroom, rolled up, and secured with a rubber band. You can take a picture of your tabletop and send it to us via email. If you would like a free estimate, please let us know.
Glass Styles: Picking the Right One
It is possible to use frosted or tinted glass according to the style you want for your table. It is clear glass. However, that is most requested. And it is partly due to transparent glass’s incredibly versatile nature. Any table base – from vibrantly colored pottery to metal or wood – can be made to fit float glass pieces custom cut to fit. In addition to making custom tables and bases, it is also possible to cut glass to fit neatly over existing table surfaces.
Clear glass provides both a functional (as well as an aesthetically pleasing) surface while not taking over your space or making it feel cramped. The beauty of the clear glass top is that it brings the focus to the base of the table.
Get Your Table Glass Measured by a Professional
There is no doubt that glass table tops are one of those design features that look stunning in any space due to their refined aesthetic and timeless appeal. There is, however, one important prerequisite. The tabletop glass must be cut to size and finished by a professional glazier.
If the glass table tops are cut to the right size to suit your space, and they have the essential features of quality and craftsmanship – the right type of glass and finish – you can’t go wrong.
Whether it’s for your residence or your business, Advanced Window & Glass Repair delivers glass table tops in Woodbridge, Stafford, Springfield, Burke, Fairfax, and Manassas. Our professionals can also take precise dimensions of your table on your property. Measurement of your table by an expert has several benefits, so it is beneficial to have your table measured by an expert.
A glazier with experience can take precise dimensions with the help of a laser measuring tool as well as an understanding of the methods used to cut and size glass table tops. You will have a millimeter-perfect tabletop as a result.
You order a quality piece of glass, cut according to the manufacturer’s requirements or according to your measurements, just to discover that the measurements are off. A slight discrepancy in size, especially if the glass tabletop is placed on top of another surface, undermines the perfection of a perfectly cut surface.
We guarantee a flawless fit, resulting in both an aesthetic and functionally balanced glass surface.
Combine cutting and polishing your glass tabletop
If you plan to polish your tabletop, it needs to be cut in the same place where you plan to polish it. That will prevent your glass from being moved between studios or warehouses.
